Well, I am not sure I agree with you though, 2 and a half American gallons a
minute is 320 ounces which is 5.33 ounces a second. seems to me I urinate about
that fast. Is that even as fast as a toilet tank fills?

I don't know how one calculates the relative cost of electric and gas. They can
give efficiency ratings but one really wants to know something like BTus per
dollar. Even at 60% efficiency of gas, if the cost per unit of heat is a
quarter of that of electricity gas will still be have the cost of electricity
to operate. Up here, with my furnace running well over 90% efficient and
electric heat 100% efficient, gas is still a lot cheaper than heating with
electricity. Gas hot water is fractionally as expensive as electric hot water
and the efficiency too is way lower.

It is for certain that point-of-use hot water around kitchen and bathroom
basins will save a lot of money over time and it probably doesn't matter too
much if it takes a little longer for the washer to fill especially if you only
run the occasional load. I get impatient though waiting for a tub to fill.

Anyway it will be interesting and valuable to hear about your experience with
this.

Dale, most items really don't take a lot of water if you have water saver
items.
Typical shower takes less than 1.5 gallon a minute total. My washers take
less than 2 gallon a minute. Tubes take around 3.5 gallon a minute if turned
up. I should not have any problem with any item in my house. I would need one
for each bath and laundry area or sink. With each area having its own unit I
would get max savings.
The tub for bath would be my biggest user and only user that would go over 2
gallon a minute if opened up. Initial cost would be higher, but savings would
be great. Whirlpools are self heated for comfort so that isn't an issue either.
