Dale, we use more hot water to wash a dog and cat than our washer takes.
Most of the water used in the washer is cold anyway. A load of whites will
take about 4 gallons of hot water and that is added by weight by the washer.
All my shower heads are 1.5 gallon or less and there again not all will be hot.
My tubs are the only big usage item and I get in and turn it on and wait
for it to fill while I relax so I don't need a fast fill. If I'm in a hurry I
take a shower which is most of the time.
The savings can be there for anyone; but, you need to know how and what
you use to get max savings. A little checking can save you a headache later.
If in your case you want a fast fill on a tub, you would simply get one to suit
you. The units you pick need to match your needs and wants and you will save.
The same care needs to be taken for what energy source to pick. My
electric is below 10 cents a kilowatt here in the country; but gas rates are
high. I'm basically total electric and my highest bill was around 2oo and
something this winter and that includes my hot water already. I will simply
reduce my electric bill by going with usage point tankless units.
