I find them to be a pain in the ass to use. They come in 3/16 and 1/4 shaft diameters, and several different lengths. The screw needs to go 1 to 1 1/4 inches in to the concrete, any deeper and you will have issues getting them down all the way. I have seen a few different head styles, flat with a philips bit or flat with a square drive, and a head that is more like a bolt that takes either a flat bladed screw driver or a socket. Michael

Spiro, Tacon screws are concrete screws. But, no plugs, no shields, none of that jazz. Just drill the proper sized pilot hole, often with the included masonary bit, and then drive in the tapcon screw with a regular old screw driver. They look like normal screws except the threads are pretty course and rather sharp. Very nice to work with. -- Blue skies. Dan Rossi Carnegie Mellon University.
