Geoff, if your unit cycles twice in order to satisfy your therm temp
setting, it might not be your thermostat at all or the anticipator in it.
When you say it cycles twice to satisfy the thermostat temperature setting,
is the thermostat actually shutting down before the temperature is up in
that room(where the thermostat is locate, or the temperature in other rooms
is not up yet?
What if the thermostat is still demanding heat and the unit giving heat
shuts down and starts back up again into a second cycle while the entire
time the thermostat is waiting for enough heat to go back into the off or
satisfied mode. If this second scenario is the case, your heating system
might be over heating and shutting down on safeties. If in fact it is doing
the latter, it will cost you more than an arm and leg to heat this year.
You will have a lot of excess heat going up the chimney if you are using
fossil fuel.
