Carol just bought a new 3500 4-door Dodge Diesel and it does
exactly the same thing. The service manager told us that it
is the cheap sleazy tires the factory installs. I rode in
the bed with a stethoscope stuck to the fender wells and
because I can't come up with a better answer I would have to
agree with him. Sitting in the cab it almost sounds like
surround sound.

Have to listen to which end of the engine the noise is
coming from. All the belts are on the passenger side and
the transmission is on the driver side.

It could be the power steering pump if it sounds like the
transmission noise. They sound similar.

Our 05 caravan, is making a wining sound, only when it is
kind of cold, hear it when you are nearly stopped, like when
the transmission goes in to low gear. you hear again when
you take off, strange, after every thing is hot, it quits.
something probably getting ready to go out. Don

I just did a serpentine belt on a 07 Caravan this weekend
for my banana bread connection and that damn thing was a
  royal pain.
I worked on that stupid stocker for 2.5 hours and had to
build a special tool to release the belt tensioner. It's a
good thing this 78 year old specializes in banana nut
bread
because she could have never afforded me otherwise.

It's a big job, the timing belt has to come off to get to
  the water pump.
Usually there is a sign of some sort to tell if the pump
is
  getting ready to
die. A special noise they make, or some dripping. Not
  likely the
dealership pumped it up to 30 pounds and blew the seal
  around the pump
  shaft.

Remember part of that price is that high dollar anti
freeze
  too.
