How new is it? If it's a Whirlpool there is an 800 number on the side of the tank. Call them with the model number and they'll overnight you a gas valve. This is a national recall on certain models.
Before we flood everyone's in box, I don't know the models involved that's why I said to call Whirlpool. The problem deals with the flame not getting hot enough and they send out the parts to you.
