Mu metal is very soft iron.  They used to make tape recorder heads out of it 
but they wore out very quickly.  It's claim to faim is that it has a very 
high magnetic permeability.  I would think it would rust easily being made 
of almost pure iron.  I can't imagine lining a hot water tank with it.
