I am thinking that Dale might be able to give a better answer to this. But:
I go to Home Depot or the other big large hardware store, The foam comes in
large 4 by 8 sheets, there is this, according to my son, Norman, a silver
color to one side and a little different silver to the other side. The
sheets come in 1 inch all the way up to 4 or 6 inches thick. So using my
tape measure measuring off from, in my case Black-top that I originally
black-topped around the back of the house - foundation out 10 feet into the
back yard area. This is where the Deck was built over that service and the
Sun-room was installed on the deck. So on the south end 10.2 feet across I
measured the deck to the black-top and just a little extra, then slid into
place with the deck frame. As on the North end the same thing. Now with
this metal they are used for many different things, I was told, they come 14
inches in depth and 2 feet across, fitted them into place and underneath the
flashing of the sun-room down over the deck. This on the south end. Then
took Out-door silicone and sealed very good along the black-top and entire
area and each section that came together and also the flashing for a tight
seal. On the North end being the Black-top was right to the edge of the
deck. The deck a small amount to the lawn, I dug a trench and placed the
sections in. carefully sliding up underneath the flashing of the sun-room
and the rest into the ground right up to the black-top and then the out-door
silicone sealed each section and the flashing. So it is all air tight. Of
course making sure underneath was totally dry still first. In front of the
24 foot long sun-room I had placed a tarp, heavy grade, but now as said this
spring, early summer, will be digging out the rose bed, right after trimming
back the rose bushes and removing the tarp from underneath the flashing,
leave in place and put in the foam strips and the metal or tin, strips and
fasten and seal and then back with the top soil and never have to worry
about it again. I took Dales' ideas in gaining even more solar heat to the
house. I can tell you since just doing both ends and our winters in Maine,
let alone living on a peninsula, that reaches out into Casco Bay of te
Atlantic Ocean.. Well we see cold up here.. The wind chills can be well
below zero.. Especially now for January.. We call today 30/31/ a heat wave
here.. Anyway as long as there is a good quality of sun that sun-room takes
little time to heat up once the sun hits the three walls of windows!!
