Well there probably is something missing.

There should probably be a guard so when the cutting teeth catch and the hands 
begin to slide toward the sharp edge the guard stops them from sliding onto the 
sharp edge. one would be holding the handle really tight and the grip sliding 
over the sharpened edge would nearly certainly sever the flexor tendons in the 
fingers.

Now I don't own such a device and if I had a need and bought one I might well 
not consider this possibility. so, thank you Betsy, on my next sojourn into the 
jungle I hope I remember this warning and make a better selection because of 
this.
