I am about to purchase a few things to do some minor repairs and preservation
work on my 96 318ti. I have searched the Internet for sources of the proper
supplies and found two decent sources. Wurth from either Wurth direct or
through places like Pelican and such and Eastwoods for their products.

I can get decent prices on some Wurth products off of the net, but have not
been able to source everything from the net. Wurth has a rep in my area that
will allow me to order direct and the prices are as good or better than the
net, the problem is the min. quantities of certain products. This forces one
to order more than one might need at the time. I understand that Wurth is the
preferred material to repair German cars such as ours but I am wondering if
Eastwoods or others can be substituted for some of them with no loss of quality.

The things I need are:

Brushable Seam Sealer

SKS Stoneguard(grey and black) - the stuff that seems to be covering most of
the bottoms of our cars and wheel wells

Body Protection - that beige wax inside most of the cars closed box sections

Alu Zinc Spray

Some form of sprayer to apply SKS and Body Protection wax

I can get similar products from Eastwoods:

Brushable Seam Sealer

Rubberized undercoating (black)

Heavy Duty Rust Guard - waxy rust spray

Zinc Spray

Some form of sprayer to apply undercoating and Body Heavy Duty Rust Guard

Can anyone give me ideas or guidance on these items? Currently my main goal is
to recover three small areas of the underbody just aft of the front wheelwells
damaged by my accident with my old ramps. I have to clean and recover these
areas with the SKS/undercoating and may have to use some seam sealer to make
sure nearby seams are tight. I also wish to fog the box sections involved with
wax to help make sure no rust forms. There are some drain holes in this
section for access and I will make sure they are clear afterwards. The Alu
Zinc/Zink spray is for any bare metal that may be exposed. I also have to make
sure the lower fenders just aft of the front wheelwells are properly coated as
they were slightly bent and some paint chipped off. Fortunately this will be
totally hidden by the rocker covers when I put them back on.

Can anyone confirm or deny that the above materials are appropriate, Wurth or
other brands? Also any ideas or instructions or source of instruction on such
bodywork would be appreciated. I have some basic bodywork knowledge and
experience. I have access to a lift now and I have a very good compressor. I
also have a decent HVLP gravity gun, though I have never used it.

I will eventually like to do a thorough inspection and touch up of all the
undercarriage and body of my car for any issue that may lead to corrosion and
such. I also have a 2001 Sierra 4x4 that could use some protection and a 92
Buick that needs rust repair and recoating to slow the rot, so any crossover
use is a plus.

I look forward to your comments,

David Ellsworth, Richmond, VA

hey gruppe...a fellow female autocrosser asked me to check over her E30
M3...just to "go over it." i gave her the name of a BMW shop to take it
to, but she just asked me if i could do it since she knows i wont give
her some BS about having to replace things that dont need replacing to
make some money...

i told her she could go to a race shop i frequent and she could pay the
shop time there just for using their lift and have my mechanic friend
there help me to go over her car...

problem is that i dont have a E30 M3, and i'm more familiar with the
E36s, so any things i need to look out for with this car...any
links/tips/advice greatly appreciated...

thanx in advance...
