That was certainly my thought.

I do know someone who's done this, so it does work. I don't know what other
measures may have been necessary to take care of any stack-up dimension
issues of the kind Rob points out.

I've also been told, correctly or not, that Dinan's E36 lightweight flywheel
took a similar approach.

I'd sure consider Rob and UUC an authority on this whole clutch/flywheel
question. So I bought their product.  ;-)

When I installed the sachs racing clutch with metal flywheel and tiny 4 puck 
clutch in the M52 engine, everything fitted well but the flywheel/clutch 
assembly was not as high has the stock one. I had to modify the clutch 
mechanism to compensate the difference in height (the fork was modified).
Ran the car in three races and disassembled everything and everything works 
fine.

The clutch was a Sachs RCS 184 bought used from Turner.
