My new to me 1991 M5 is the first BMW I have owned where I can clearly hear the fan. As soon as the car warms up, you can hear the fan whine/roar until the motor gets to 3000rpm or so, then it subsides. This is how I figured the fan clutch should work, I have just never been able to hear it any of the BMWs I have owned (the fan in my Suburban is easy to hear when it's hot as was a prior Toyota). Normal M5 thing? Time for a fan clutch? Can runs dead center on the temp gauge even in traffic at 100F if it matters. Many thanks for the help! Regards, Paul Craven 1991 M5 - Best of the 14 BMWs I have owned, highly recommended 1999 528iT - Hers. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Sep 2006 09:00:31 -0400 From: "Gary Derian" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Paul Craven" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, <[email protected]> Subject: Re: Belt Driven Fan Part II Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> That seems like excessive fan operation to me. In my car I can hardly hear the fan except for a few seconds of acceleration after sitting still for a period of time with everything fully warmed up..
