Hi all,
Seeing Kevin's fan question reminded me to ask one of my own. My new to
me 1991 M5 is the first BMW I have owned where I can clearly hear the
fan. As soon as the car warms up, you can hear the fan whine/roar until
the motor gets to 3000rpm or so, then it subsides. This is how I
figured the fan clutch should work, I have just never been able to hear
it any of the BMWs I have owned (the fan in my Suburban is easy to hear
when it's hot as was a prior Toyota). Normal M5 thing? Time for a fan
clutch? Can runs dead center on the temp gauge even in traffic at 100F
if it matters. Many thanks for the help!

Regards,
Paul Craven

That seems like excessive fan operation to me. In my car I can hardly hear
the fan except for a few seconds of acceleration after sitting still for a
period of time with everything fully warmed up..
