I concur with Markus, this seems an excellent idea. Now I am constant afraid to install a new update, because really essential functions get broken all the time (embed function for example). I have tested my site and I know it works good with the current version (3.08 i believe), however, the newer versions DO add extra functionality I would like to have...
I really think version managament would help to release more stable releases, and also speed up the develop proces, since more developers can contribute.
