Some comments.

One great benefit from a Revision control system is that you will know when
a section of code was inserted/changed because there would be notes when it
was done.  Recently you asked if anyone knew why some code existed.  In a
revision control system, that would be known just by looking.

There are revision control systems that are self-contained, on your own box
as apposed to being web based.

I personally use subversion which is a unix based system.  There are many to
choose from as well as web based ones as well as Marus.
