Alas, one of my 3 Booms has exhibited signs of woofer damage. I've
purchased replacement speakers
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00W46R5A6/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all).
Before reassembling the Boom I am wondering about the coating on screws
attaching the speakers. Does it have something to do with aspects of the
sound? If so, what is an appropriate replacement? I fear that if I use
epoxy I may not be able to get the screws out again should future repair
become necessary. Would silicone caulk be acceptable?

The above mentioned speakers do fit, but they are not a direct
replacement. For one they are a small bit shallower. Additionally, I had
to grind material away from two of the speaker mounting ears. I also had
to grind a bit of plastic away from a rib on the Boom near one of the
mounting bosses. Even at that, the speaker does not fit flush with the
housing. A small air gap remains. I filled that gap with a squishy
material (silicone tubing), being careful to not come in contact with
the speaker surround. One minor addition is that the mounting holes are
larger and do require that washers be used under the screw heads.

Since ordering the above speakers I found on ebay what appears to be old
stock of the original Boom speakers
(https://www.ebay.com/itm/132099358553?ul_noapp=true#shpCntId). Their
photo shows a Logitech part number which matches that on my speakers.
However, dimensions provided indicate a height of 6.3 cm. The speakers
in my Boom measured 6.07 cm, in which case the speakers would probably
be too deep to fit. I queried the vendor and the reply was that the
dimensions indicated were correct.
Now, questions arise, is the photo depicted that of the speaker actually
being shipped or is the dimension actually incorrect? Another concern is
that, if as some say, failure of the Boom speakers is a result of age
rather than usage, these replacements may fail in a short period of
time.

Perhaps I'll experiment with replacing the surrounds in the removed
speakers in preparation for the potential failure of my other two
Booms.

The Boom I am repairing has been running most of the day, most every day
for 9 years. Volume is set to a relatively moderate level and I never
listen to heavy bass. It is in a household environment and out of direct
sun.

I chose to replace the speakers rather than to repair the existing ones
because it looked originally to be the easier and less risky route.
