Which platform? What kind of problems are you running into?

I've run across more than a few comments that Xalan has a few bugs
that the DocBook XSL stylesheets trigger.

If you're already running into problems with the Makefiles (and, of
course, they won't work on Win32), perhaps a Jam-based solution should be
a short-term (not long-term) goal. Dave and/or Rene: if we were to get
some Jamfiles working for now, would they have to change dramatically for
BBv2? Basically, would it be a waste of time to work on this now, because
BBv2 is close at hand, or should we consider implementing a stopgap
solution?
