I found your post a most interesting read.
Great, and thanks for saying so!
It would be good to discuss in person!
And where, in the case of your person, would such a discussion be likely
to occur?
Like you, I think that investment in tools and documentation is of
paramount importance. FWIW, I've never got on well with Boost Jam :-(
Ah, jam... I think the Boost Build system is an amazing accomplishment,
but it is rather unwieldy. Getting things lined up can be most
frustrating - I know it still gives me fits at times. To be fair, it
occupies the unenviable role of attempting something (platform
independent control for building complex C++ projects) which seems
simple until you've actually tried it. Dealing with jam files is like
writing docs directly in the BoostBook format instead of having
QuickBook free you from the gritty details... so is anyone else thinking
what I'm thinking? :)
Regarding your specific suggestions for QuickBook, I see nothing in the work I'm
doing (slowly!) which isn't taking it in the direction you suggest. I'll keep
you informed.
Nor do I, especially after Joel's suggestion of incorporating the syntax
highlight definitions themselves into the QuickBook syntax. Do you
think that might simplify integrating your work into QuickBook?
