O'Reilly might not want to get involved with handing out ceritifications,
but they could sell the textbooks.

On a slightly different note, it seems to me that a good time to start
certification would be when Perl 6 becomes available or earlier.
Certification, if you're going to do it, should be ready to ride the
coattails of all the hype that'll be buzzing when perl 6 finally leaves
the chute.  I can hear the marketing spin now.

"Perl 6 fixes all the weaknesses of Perl 5 but keeps all the advantages.
And then it adds new features like threads, continuations, faster execution,
more security, blah, blah. To reflect this new level of robustness
and sophistication, certification programs will be offered for perl 6.
blah blah blah."

When IS perl 6 going to be ready, anyway?
