Seems we went to the same schools or something, Andy.  I guess being a
Ham has its advantages.  The reason you unplug a cord from the power
source first is that the end of the cord which you so blithely have
yanked out of your equipment is still live.  If your hands are wet, if
the table is damp, if the dog goes and licks the end of the cord, if
the baby picks it up and puts it in his mouth, if you step on it with
your shoes and break the plug, if any number of things, you could give
yourself a nasty shock!  Why do something which could be a potential
hazard?  What's that the boy scouts say, "Be prepared"?  Well, that's
me.  If I can do something in two ways and the second way is safer,
might take longer, but is safer, I'll up and do it.
