My husband and I both own BrailleNotes and we are absolutely overwhelmed by the way HumanWare is treating their loyal customers. I couldn't believe it when the lady at HumanWare told me that I would only have to pay $1995.00 if I transferred my Braille display from my old unit to the new model. I had to ask Jonathan in order to really believe it. We're definitely going to follow that path.
While I'm writing, I want to post a question to all of you. I have a dear friend who has wanted a BrailleNote for years but she can't afford the cost of a new one. In light of this news, do any of you know who might be interested in selling their old units? If anyone on the HumanWare staff is reading this, would there be a possibility of refurbished units coming on the market at a reduced price? Now you know why. Obviously we can't give hardware away or we'd be out of business. However, it is very rare indeed for PDA manufacturers to offer people any kind of path to trade in their equipment. Generally, if you want the latest and greatest, then you buy a new machine. But we recognise that these machines cost much more. So for well under half the cost of a brand new BrailleNote PK, you can have a brand new Braillenote mPower if you are an existing BrailleNote customer. And if that's not an option for you, then we're still going to produce software for the machine you have. So I think we've been as fair as we can. So I can assure you that even if all you can do is update the software on what you have, good things are coming. That's the HumanWare way.
