it is advisable from HumanWare that you do remove cards when powering down
and up to minimize the potential of losing any type of data. There may some
some instances where you might lose some data such as your address book. But
from my experience with the BrailleNote is that i have never lost any type
of data and i have had one for over two years and never removed the card
when powering off or on. I am just wanting to let everyone know that these
devices are computers and have the potential of going wrong and it has
nothing to do with it being a BrailleNote or anything like that. I actually
Think that my pc has lost more data than my BrailleNote.

who panicked when I heard about the m Power crashing today. I was and
maybe still am, very serious about purchasing it. Do you mean that for
example, when turning off the Braille Note you should remove your compact
flash card. I have my books from bookshare on it. I now have the
classic, and have never removed the card. Also, when you say you lose
files, do you also lose your address book, e-mails, and key word files. I
am not at all computer savoy, that is why I use the Braille Note and

issue of losing data on a mPower, classic, or a pc. The bottom line is

they're all computers and they wil behave like computers and crashing,
losing data, and just other things that occur with computers currently.
So
my opinion of keeping all of your data safe is to back it up consistently
onto cards such as pc, cards, sd cards, thumb drives, and , other external
medias. Then after you backed up your files onto those cards, remember to
remove them when powering off and on and dont put them into the slots or
ports available until the unit is on to make sure that you are doing every
thing precisely, and making it very very minimal to lose any type of data.
And one last thing when writing a long document or any type of document
make
sure that you save periodically, this will help because in case your unit
crashes you will lose very few data.
Well i hope that this will help a few people out there
We just have to keep in mind that these things are computer and will
behave
like them, until some major improvement comes along with the way data is
managed and stored.

better. Yes, I have lost files recently from my mPower. I have also

can't stress enough that this is not an mPower issue, as far as I am
personally aware. To answer your question directly, Sammie, taking out
your CF card will almost certainly keep your data safe. I say almost
because, with computers, you just never know, sometimes you lose data no
matter what you do. I have no reason to believe, just because a few of

posted about very strange BN behavior, that the mPower is predisposed to
lose data. So no, I wouldn't worry about your new mPower eating your
data, it probably won't happen. Backup constantly just in case, but

that, in the opinion of this end-user, HW has done and continues to do,
the best they can to see that these unfortunate things don't happen. I

To everyone who responded to my questions about losing files,
I wish to thank you for doing so. However, nobody answered my
questions. I am aware that currently we are forced to live with
this problem after our upgrade or purchase to a new MPower, but
I'd like to know why. This technology is not cheap, and many of
us are required to mortgage something to obtain it, so I believe
that any marketed improvement should perform at least as well as
the device it replaced.
I'm still interested in getting answers to my original
questions about reset issues if your device freezes and you must
perform a reset without returning to Main Menu.
Since I haven't received my MPower yet, I don't know whether
this problem will affect me or not. If I'm not affected, then my
questions are moot, But in case I am affected, and for those who
are affected now, I think the questions deserve more than just a
"We'll just have to live with it" answer.
Forgive me, but I don't know Joseph Lee, is he a Humanware
engineer, vendor, or stockholder, or does he obtain the knowledge
he gives about these products from the User's manual? I am not
saying that he does not have actual, first hand knowledge and
professional experience about what he says, but if my new
transplant loses data, Joseph Lee nor the people telling me I
have to live with it are out of anything. I however don't have
my data, which is the reason I have this wonderful product in the
first place.
With all that said, I like my BrailleNote, and don't want any
other company's product to replace it. I just want it to work at
least as well as my 6.11 did. And please don't recommend that I
get a desktop, laptop, or notebook computer. I can't use the
QWERTY keyboard, and therefore, don't know how to use a computer.
This very expensive device is what I have, what I want, and I
need it working properly.
If this is off-topic, I apologize, but I believe that my
original message was on-topic and still deserves an answer, not
platitudes.
