This is Jospeh. I ran to this kind of situation a few years ago. Try reset
with dots 1-2-3. Install the product key, then proceed with the upgrade. I
recommend that you first reset the machine with dots 1-2-3 reset before you
start the upgrade.

If you can reset, it should say "product key?"  If it does, and you can
press O-chord, then K, then C, then Enter, you may be able to write it in.
Use all capital letters, so press chord U twice, and don't put the dashes
