Hello all,

My wife is presently at a guidedog school. She can access their wireless
network to a point, only to get onto websites but that too is limited. She
cannot download her Email for some reason. She keeps getting error 10050 or
10051 messages when she attempts to download her mail. Other students have had
much the same problem. She can access a site on the web but when she attempts
to go to another brouzer window, she gets the "cannot find server message more
often than not. Phones with bluetooth on Verizon are pricey especially if
Mobile Speaks can be used. Too bad there isn't an air card on Verizon which
could be used with the BN. I think this would be preferable to the bluetooth
phone despite the cost. I hope the possibility of using these air cards will
be considered in future upgrades for the M-power. My wife could use the
wireless network instead of depending on the spacy policies of a guidedog
school or Rehab center when it comes to wireless networks. I'm certain these
places are trying to protect people's personal information which might explain
the firewall on their system but one wonders why a separate low security
network couldn't be placed in an auditorium or wherever people gather widely in
such places so that students can at least download Email. The M-power as well
as other notetakers are going to be more and more prevalent as time goes on
and people would like to use them when downloading their personal Email. If
guidedog schools or rehab centers are resistant in allowing for access on their
networks, the air card would be more attractive to me than the wireless phone.
Hopefully, costs will go down on phones shortly. Email should be available if
a school or rehab center says it is available to all who are attending such
facilities. They should be held to it when they say they have made provisions
for anyone to get their Email during their stay at their facility. Another
frustration one encounters is the absence of the computer person who is suppose
to be in charge. Nobody else knows anything except him and he is out of town
or not available for some reason.

I have a call into tech support to see if I can get any more ideas on what can
be done to better access the network, but then she is probably up against the
firewall! They did admit to having one which they were afraid to open up for
more access.

I fully realize she is there first to train for a dog! Her experience at the
school is very positive thus far! She'd like to share that experience as it is
happening with her closest friends I'm certain! Being able to download Email
would be a nice breather between work sessions. One of the first things we ask
about when staying at a hotel is do they have wireless access? I feel much the
same way towards a guidedog school or rehab center! I too would want wireless
access there!

Thanks much for reading!
