Yes, you definitely can do this, but you can only overwrite one
character at a time this way, can't you?

To overwrite a character, place your cursor on the character, and
then do a
space with dots 2, 4, and 6. Then write the character you wish.

Jose, I'm not sure what you are asking here. You can delete
lines, words,
or sentences. I'm not sure how you would be overwriting, except
to delete
under cursor, delete line, or sentence.
