I wonder if there's been a misunderstanding.  HW charges $500 for a hardware 
service contract, to be used in the event that your BN needs to be repaired.  
As far as I know, the SMA is still somewhat cheaper.

I am not into company bashing. That just isn't my style. I was just
appalled on Friday when I called and inquired about ordering either
the braille manual or an SMA. I thought it would be like FS' SMA,
around $150 or $200. I thought I could make a choice which one I
wanted--the braille manual or the SMA. When I heard $500, I was like,
"Wow." That's all. I really don't have any more to say about it. I
think the BrailleNote is a great product, and I'm very happy to have
it.
