Hello Andy,
Yes, as soon as I plug this unit in, it gets extremely hot. I do not know how old it is, for it is a loaner, but I was told that it was a demo unit before being sent to me.
My unit, which is being serviced, never gets hot at all.
So, maybe some do and some do not, but this one is getting hotter than hot as soon as you plug it in. I am nursing it along, because it is a loaner, so when I get mine back, I will send it back and let you know it is coming, so someone can look at it to see if it needs servicing as well.
Robert

Subject: re: [Braillenote] hot batteries

Hi Robert,

a certain amount of heating is fine, and indeed unavoidable
unless you
reduce the current and so increase charge time to more than about
10
hours. A 15 degree C rise in battery temperature is absolutely
normal for
these batteries (NiMH) towards the end of the fast charge. Much
more than
that and I might worry. And I wouldn't have thought that the
battery
should heat up immediately if it's empty when you plug the
charger in -
how old is the unit? I'm reading these numbers off the battery
manufacturer's data sheet by the way.

I'd also like to point out that if I took the cooling fans off my
PC it
would probably overheat and die within the hour! It's just
something you
have to live with in some devices.

regards,
Andy.
