Jonathan told me that KeySoft 7.2 will allow the BrailleNotes-VoiceNotes to play the NLS Daisy books.
He also said that they were working on RFBD.
Rfbd has a separate security level to doubly protect the copyright. Perhaps Jonathan will chime in soon, though he may be on a well deserved vacation.

Subject: RE: [BrailleNote] USA digital talking books

Ottawa Canada

One problem with trying to read NLS Digital Talking Books on a
Braille or VoiceNote is that I am told NLS will be using a
proprietary memory card, not CF, PC/MCIA or SD cards.

So NLS will have complete control over what equipment can read
their memory cards.

Now if they let you download the Talking Book files over the
Internet, you could presumably play them on a BrailleNote.

Not sure if NLS is going to use the DAISY file format or their
own proprietary one.

I suppose discussion of digital Talking Books and how they relate
to Humanware products is on topic for this list, but discussion
of the inner workings of NLS Digital Talking Books is not.

Guess the Americans will get to see what NLS has to offer in 2007
or 2008 when NLS rolls out the goods.
