Hi Joseph, the audio tutorial is still relevant, because it only covers
basic functions like navigating menus, writing a basic document,
performing a calculation etc, and those haven't changed. I'll update it at
some point, but as there's nothing that's actually out of date yet, it may
not be for a while.

Jonathan, I have some points here.
The version that you've done for BrailleNote is for KeySoft 5.0 (in the
case
of PK, it is 6.)). Are you going to update the tutorial to reflect chapter
1
from KeySoft 7.x?

Hi Sarah, I very sincerely appreciate your attempt to again bring some
facts
into this thread. You are right on the money with your understanding. When
necessary, I post on this list acknowledging when HumanWare has got it
wrong. People who've been on this list for any reasonable period have seen
this. But it is very difficult to deal with criticism that has no basis in
fact, and which continues when the facts are explained.

This thread originally started with comments on the audio tutorial on CD,
that is to say, the audio tutorial that ships whenever anyone receives a
BrailleNote. What we used to do was have a narrator simply read Chapter
One
of the Users Guide, word for word, on cassette. When I joined the company,
I
decided based on my past experience in audio production, that it would be
better for customers if I took Chapter One of the User's Guide, and
re-recorded it with actual examples of the BrailleNote talking.
In actual fact, this means that there is a little less room, so Chapter
One
of the User's Guide, the Getting Started Tutorial, is more comprehensive
in
text form, available to Deaf Blind people, than it is to people who use
the
audio. But it was my hope that the audio would still be enough to get
aural
learners up and running. This is why I have stated that Deaf Blind people
already have access to that same material. If you asked me to write down
the
text of that tutorial CD, you'd end up with a slightly abridged version of
Chapter One of the User's Guide, already accessible to the Deaf Blind.

Now somewhere along the line without me really realising it, somehow this
thread's subject matter seem to change or somehow get confused, and some
people were talking about the what's new product demonstration audio. In
this regard, we've not done as well as we should have in providing equal
access, because I recorded and published that audio in June, but we have
not
yet published the What's New section of the User Guide providing similar
depth in text. This isn't good enough, it's inequitable, and as I've
stated
before in this thread, I'll fix it for next time and appreciate people
calling us to task on this.

How this can be in any way translated to us not listening or refusing to
move on the issue is a mystery to me. It shows that we can never satisfy
everyone, but I truly hope that reasonable people will see that we've
attempted to act in good faith. let me thank you once again for your
message.

RE: [Braillenote] Tutorial

If I may jump in here, there seems to be a huge misunderstanding going on,

and someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I believe what KC was asking
for is a text equivalent of the "DEMO" that Jonathan posted to the HW
site. I seem to have opened an enormous can of worms by posting part of
that demo to the list, but oh well. The audio tutorial, on the other
hand, is exactly what Jonathan said, an audio version of the first part of

the manual. This is already available in text, so I really don't see what

the problem is in this respect. I think Rhonda has done a fine job with
posting what she has of the DEMO.
So, to answer you, Jose, there is a tutorial available for the deaf-blind
already, both in text and in Keyword format. The demo was not available
in text form until Rhonda transcribed some of it.

Again, if I'm way off-base here, please forgive me, I'm trying to
understand and help this all make some kind of sense.

Hey; Jonathan, I understand your frustration. But think about it. We
people
who are blind need audio tutorials. But also the deaf blind comunity are
asking you to put up braille tutorials. Well that's what I think. Well
write
back.

Guys, forget it! I'll not put information up on the site. I
thought it may help. I wouldn't think it should matter whose
responsibility it is, as long as someone can benefit from the
information. It's making me tired anyway, (smile).
