Hello Paul,
I think that there is a difference in the way that the braillenote works from a bt keyboard to a Qt keyboard. I noticed, that when I had a qt keyboard unit a few weeks ago, that side by side, the bt keyboard downloaded quicker and I am able to press space with low g and immediately the e-mail is sent to the trash folder. I also get approximately 200 to 400 e-mail a day, and have had no problems downloading and once they are downloaded, moving from one e-mail to another, seems to be very quick. So, I would say, that for some reason or another, that the bt keyboard seems to be better in the regard of downloading and reading e-mail.
This is just my observation of course.
Robert

Hi, Rachael. There are two things that I can come up off the top
of my head
that are real problems with the bn's email program.
1. Try downloading a lot of email. I mean over 400. I get
about that each
day. Right now, I am reading through over 1000 since I didn't
read my mail
yesterday.
Start moving through the subjects. Press the key sequence to
delete that
message. On the qt, that's control 8. It will take up to 10
seconds or more
for the bn to move the mail to the trash. This will get better
as you shrink
the number of messages.
It will also become hard to move between messages with the left
or right
arrow. This will become very sluggish. Exiting will also take a
while.
2. Unpredictably, the braille note will choke on a message.
This will cause
downloading to stop. There won't be any message. It will just
stop.
This happened to me twice at ACB. With 800 messages to download,
which, by
the way, isn't a problem for the Mpower, it just stopped at 135
or so
stating that it was finished.
Once the spam was removed, I was able to download all mail. It
happened
again two days later.
I have seen this behavior probably four times since I have owned
my Mpower.
3. One I forgot about. Try downloading over 400 messages on a
braille note
classic. The higher the number, the slower the process will get
until it
just crawls.
These won't affect you if you don't get much mail.

Hi Paul,

I'm not here to defend HW, but I'd like to know, what,
specifically, is not
reliable about the email program? I've been doing mostly all my
email on it
for months now, with very few problems. One that I can remember
got blamed
on the BN, and was, in fact, a problem with my ISP. So, I'd say
that, while
their email is fiddly, it is relatively reliable. Well, once in
a very long
while, I'll lose a message that I've written. That what you
mean? <smile

I don't think I'd switch either. If HW could just rewrite the
email program
so it is reliable, I'd be the happiest of campers<grin>.

The PacMate is wider and heavier. From what I remember, you have
to take it
out of the case to use it, unlike the BrailleNote where you can
just use it
right in the case. I'm pretty happy with my MPower and wouldn't
even think
of switching.

Guess he'll be carrying a Pacmate wherever he goes rather than an
MPower
now. I'm curious. Is the Pacmate about the same size as the
MPower?

In defending the Braillenote, he often said that the open
platform
approach wasn't as important in this arena, because most users of
this
kind of product also have PC's, and use their PDA type product
for
directed applications, such as Email, note taking, etc. I guess
he
changed his tune, but the question is, what does he really
believe? I
also understand, that at least until now, he was not using
Freedom
Scientific products.

You know, What's really sad is that you have to truly question
just how
much confidence you are willing to put in the statements and
opinions of
others when it comes to looking at accesibility products.

This one really shakes it to the core.
