Hello Listers,
After I received my upgrade to 6.11, I asked him and Dean Jackson told me that the BrailleNote battery did not have a brain as old cell phones once did. He said that keeping the device attached to a power source when not in use would automatically disable the battery which would become active again when the power source is removed. Therefore, I keep my BrailleNote attached to a power source whenever I'm home. (Andrew Ridden, will you please clarify this. If in fact the battery is affected by keeping the unit attached to a power source, please let me know. Following Dean's information, I've kept my unit attached to the power source since 6.11 and I've never had a battery problem. Also, I never turn my BrailleNote off at home, but I leave it in the "Main Menu" position when not using it. I use a heavy duty surge protector between the AC adaptor and the power outlet in case of a lightening strike during a storm -- although there's never been a direct lightening strike in my area. I keep my SD and Compact Flash cards in the unit unless I need to do a reset. Every thing I create or save is stored on one of these cards. I don't store anything on my Flash Drive, because I'm afraid of losing information if it crashes. Besides, I feel there's less wear and tear on the slots when the cards remain in them, and in my senility, I always know where the cards are if they're in their little slots.

Your question is a good one. I don't know if leaving the unit
plugged in ruins the battery or not. I work on mine so much,
it's just easier to leave it pplugged in. I generally use a
wireless card, so my battery would drain all the time, <grin>.

oh ok. I just wondered.
Thanks for clearing that up.
I also keep my unit plugged in when at home.
I've also heard this ruins the battery, is this true?

Hi, Brandon:

One of the reasons I don't always take my cards out is as not to
place wear and tear on my slots. Also, I don't store anything
in
my Flash Drive. All of my information is on my compact flash
cards. Of course, I generally leave my unit plugged in, which
many people don't.

I just want to know why would anyone want to keep cards in their
units if
their not using them?

Dear Richard:

Yes I have noticed keeping cards in the BrailleNote drains the
battery faster than normal.

Back at the ACB convention this year, Jonathan Mosen commented
to
me that it is best to remove cards when not in use to minimize
battery drain.

Brian
