Michele,
No. Gmail is strictly an email service
offered by Google like Yahoo, Hotmail and
such.
Regards,
Joseph

Thanks for that clarification Joseph. I
think I've heard of GMAIL
before. Is that the one where you email
Google instead of doing
searches through their website?
Thanks.

Michele,
Gmail is an email service offered by Google.
Many people on this list use this service.
Until yesterday, it was thought that Gmail
was not accessible with KeyMail because it
uses SSL, a form of encryption. But thanks
to Scott's and my findings, you can use it
now.

Hi Joseph and others. Pardon my ignorance
but what is Gmail and how is
it different to ordinary emailing?
Thanks.

Grant,
Apparently, SSL is really implemented on SMTP
server. I have used Gmail with the pop
server and it worked. Setting the SMTP
server to another one will allow the email
client to send using Gmail account because it
is not going through SSL authentication.
In regard to current situation with Gmail:
there are two possible options. First is to
use an alternative SMTP server, and second is
to implement SSL/TLS support into KeyMail.
Windows CE kernel does support SSL/TLS
connection, which is an easy way to implement
it via KeyMail (KeyWeb already supports
SSL/TLS). For now, until SSL is implemented
in KeyMail, the only way to go is to use
alternative SMTP server.
HTH,
Joseph

Definitely doesn't work here. And really, I
don't see how it can since you
are using the wrong port number, and are
telling it not to use SSL when it
should be.

But GMail uses secure (SSL) authentication,
and the POP port is 995.

account on the BrailleNote
Hi all,
You set Gmail up as follows:
1. Create a new email account
2. For email address enter the name at
gmail.com
3. for pop server enter pop.gmail.com
4. for SMTP server enter your ISP's SMTP
address. E.G. mail.internet.com
I made that one up but replace it with your
own ISP'S SMTP address.
For ports, leave them as normal.
Here is what they should be.
POP Port: 110
SMTP port: 25
You will be able to check and send mail with
your GMAIL account.
Ask any questions.
I just set mine up from scratch again and it
works fine.
Be awhere though, if you change ISP's or
travel you will need to change
the
SMTP server that the account is looking for
otherwise you won't be able
to
send mail only receive.
Good luck.
Let me know if these instructions make
sense.
Best regards,
Scott E
