Oh, but you can!
Here's how.
From the main menu, press f.
Then press d
For this example choose flash disk as your drive and general as your
folder.
Simply move to the file you are looking for, or press its initial letter
and press enter.
This functionality was part of the 7.2 upgrade.

Dear Richard,
You can't open a file from the file manager menu.

Ok,
Now, opening files.
If I want to open a file on the Braillenote, all I have to do from the
main menu is press w, then O then if the file is in the folder that
the
Braillenote prompts me for, I press enter and type the filename. Not
that hard and not all that time consuming.
Or, I can press function with 4 on a QT and I will be at a folder
prompt. The Braillenote always remembers the last folder from which
you
opened a file, so the keystrokes would go like this.
Press function with 4. Braillenote prompts "folder name, press enter
for..." (this will always be the last folder from which you accessed a
file. I press enter. The Braillenote will prompt "document to open?
Press enter for..." (again the default would be the last file you
opened.)
So if I have a file called notes, I can do this.
1. From anywhere in KeySoft press function with 4. Press enter
twice
and the file will open.
Or, I can use the file manager to open files, just as one might use
the
File Explorer on the Pac Mate.
Either way, it really isn't all that hard nor is it slow.
Some day I'll race you! (smile)

Hi Terry,
I guess what I am used to is a system more like Windows, where you can
create a file, and don't have to choose either a filename or folder
until you're ready to exit and save the file. This means that with
the
notetaker I'm currently using, you can open a new file with anywhere
from two to four quick keystrokes, depending on certain variables. It
also means that if you're just jotting something down that you need
for
a few hours, say directions, a phone number or whatever, you can open
a
file to write the info down, but don't actually have to save a file
which you might later just want to go in and delete. What your
suggesting seems OK if that file exists, but if it doesn't than you
have
to select all that stuff right up front, which seems time=consuming to
me.
Best,
Donna

Joseph;
Say she wants the file Notes. Can't she go to general then
to list of all files and type the letter N and then all her
files beginning with N would come up. Then she would only
have to arrow to notes and enter. If it was her only N folder
she would be there right away.

Hi there,
Unfortunately, BN does not have those
function keys found under PM BX. But there
are shortcuts to applications. If you need
to jot down something, pressBACKSPACE with
ENTER with w (FN plus 4 on QT) to go to
Wordprocessor, choose a folder name (General
will do) then at the document to open prompt,
just type a name like "short memo." Then
press ENTER then y to create the file (if it
does not exist). Then jot down your notes
then press SPACE with dots 1-2-3-4-5-6 (MENU
key on QT) to return to Main Menu.
Cheers,
Joseph
