Hello Alex and Peggy,
I recently sent my VoiceNote mPower back to California for a battery
replacement and the mother board upgrade, along with a few other things
that needed to be checked. When I saw your messages indicating the modem
problems you were having with your upgrade, I called and spoke to the tech
who was servicing my unit to ask him to be sure to test the modem,
thinking that maybe they got in a load of bad boards or something. He did
test my modem and it worked fine but he also mentioned that HumanWare had
discovered a problem some time ago with modems not getting enough power or
something and that they currently make a modification to every unit they
work on to fix this problem It sounds to me like your units might have
been worked on before this problem was recognized. You need to call
HumanWare and speak to someone in service or tech support to see about
confirming the situation and getting an RMA to return your note takers for
repair if you want the modem to work. I don't think HumanWare tech support
people respond to this list for those kinds of issues. If you use other
forms of connectivity for E-mail and web browsing, then I would guess you
could just wait until the next time you need to return the note taker for
service and have the modem modification done then.

Bluetooth works fine for me. Ironically, my BN had a spacebar
issue too, eventually necessitating a replacement of the whole
mPower. My new mPower's modem doesn't work, but the old one
worked just fine (I think its hardware revision was h1, not my
current RVC6S). HW should definitely do something about this as
it is through no fault of the user that modems do not work. They
should not charge for the necessary repairs to get the modem
    working.
    Have a great day,
    Alex

Glad I'm not alone. Well, no I'm not glad for you. (grin) I
just hate the thought of having to send it in for servicing on
something that happened to it when I sent it in before. And it
wasn't even a battery issue that caused me to send it in the
first time! It was a sticking space key. I thought my battery
worked fine! Can you use Bluetooth? That doesn't work for me
either. I never even thought to check the modem when I got it
back last October. I wonder when Humanware became aware of this
issue, and why they didn't put out a press release or something
    about the problem.
Peggy (who has always loved Humanware, but isn't pleased at all
    about this)
