Dear Keith and list:
You listed some excellent ideas for enhancements to the
BrailleNote/VoiceNote family of products.
Some problems I see with some of your suggestions are:
-replaceable battery: Will require a hardware change to
the unit's plastic housing and possibly to the circuit boards
inside, but mostly the case.
-faster processor: Good idea, but power consumption increases
geometrically with clock speed. So a 1 GHz processor takes much
more power to run than a 500 MHz processor.
-More memory and bigger Flash disk: Good ideas, but will
increase the bulk of the unit unless highly miniaturized
components are used, and they are expensive as the devil at the
moment.
The HTML e-mail reading, MS Word file etc are software
enhancements. They're probably deliverable, but Humanware has
stated Microsoft keeps changing the spec of their file format
with each release of MS Word!
Great ideas but there are pitfalls on their road to success.
