Hi Carol,
I just use a normal bar of soap or a handwash--no spirit in it.
I did twice put a little of an alcohol based cleaner, (can't
remember what type), on the display, then wiped it gently with a
clean cloth.
I have had this display since August 2002, with hardly any
problem at all.
I have only used it consistently though since about November
2006.
Before that I used it very lightly.

Yeah, I've just had to shell out and get on with life ... being
extra
careful this time around, though I don't think it was anything I
did or did
not do.
I am interested though to know what people think about using a
handwash
substance before using the BN and, if they'd recommen it, what
would they go
with and why? I know someone who suggests a spirit based item
but this may
well harden the fingertips and really not be worth it.
Any thoughts then I'd like to hear them; otherwise I'll just
hope this BN
display is good for some years to come!

I know people have had PK's for up to 4 years without having any
problems
with the Braille display while others have had it for 2
weeks and already experienced problems with the Braille display.
I think
that it really depends on the Braille display itself as
well as the intervention between the user and the Braille
display.
I have had my PK for 6 months and have taken it to climb Half
Dome and to
travel around the US over a dozen of times and to Canada
twice and use it constantly each day the unit is still looking
brand new.

the cost of the PK and probably near to £1500 (UK pounds)!
I'm also very annoyed to learn that they have to order spare
parts before
this work can be undertaken.
My questions are, how long have PK users had their units and the
displays
been OK? Have you had to have a display replaced, or have they
replaced
separate cells?
I would welcome any feedback, please.
