I am wondering whether some toilet soaps leave a residue on your fingers,
despite washing off the soap, and that of course I would want to avoid.

For cleaning your hands and fingertips before using a Braille
display, I would recommend a gentle toilet soap such as Ivory or
Pears and warm running water.
Alcohol based cleaners seem to sometimes leave a residue and that
probably isn't good for a Braille display.
