I just guess it is depending how much you use it. I use PK little and it is
still good condition for 4 1/2 years. Only one dot is not down full.

Maybe it is depending on the weather condition. For the example much humid
may cause more problem.

Subject: [Braillenote] THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF A BRAILLE DISPLAY IN THE PK

Hi all,

I'm writing to ask your thoughts about the life expectancy of the PK's
braille display. I've had mine for almost two years now, in regular use,
but I use it only with clean hands, haven't dropped or knocked it
(knowingly) and have now had to send it in for maintenance. With carriage
and battery replacements (the latter two charges being expected), I was
somewhat gutted to learn that, in order to deal with some faint dots, they
want to replace the whole of the Braille display ... The cost, though I
don't have a final figure, is therefore going to work out at over a third of

the cost of the PK and probably near to £1500 (UK pounds)!

I'm also very annoyed to learn that they have to order spare parts before
this work can be undertaken.

My questions are, how long have PK users had their units and the displays
been OK? Have you had to have a display replaced, or have they replaced
separate cells?

I would welcome any feedback, please.
