The best way is, if you have a pc, to connect your bn to the pc using ActiveSync. Just before you do this, though, do a 1-2-3 reset (hold down dots 1, 2, and 3, hit reset like normal, and then only let up on the dots when you hear the startup music). Then, after you connect to the pc (ask if you have not done this; instructions vary depending on the type of bn and your pc), navigate to "my computer" (just called "computer" in Vista), then find "mobile device" (in Vista this is the actual name of your machine, probably "braillenote"). Once here, find the flash disk, open it, select all, and hit delete. You will find you cannot erase any folder with a protected file in it, like the ks default folders (dictionaries, keylist, keymail, my games, and so on), but you can erase these on the bn by pressing (from the main menu) f, f, e, then selecting any folder not erased in activesync. From here (do NOT return to the main menu) press reset with no keys held down. I do not have to say that this will completely erase your flash disk, so you will lose EVERYTHING. Also, check to make sure you do not leave any storage cards in the bn during the resets, just in case; I have never seen a bn erase data during a reset, but the stories others tell keep me cautious.

As to the best way to save your data, I would back up everything, then, when you get the new bn, just restore your backup to its flash disk. This should make the new machine feel just like your old one, assuming the new one has no left-over data on it. HTH, and do not hesitate to ask for any additional help or clarification.

Have a great day,
Alex

Subject: [Braillenote] Clearing A BrailleNote MPower?

Good Day Everyone,
I know this is a stupid question, however, I'm hoping someone will have the tolerance to help me. My name is Susan-Marie and I am a college student and I've recently received a new MPower and need to return the old MPower to my VR Counselor. The trouble is that I've had the old one for approximately 4 years and, of course, it contains a great deal of personal information. Can anyone please tell me the best way to reset the BrailleNote to the factory settings? Will it be necessary for me to delete each file individually? I think the best way to save all of my personally added information is to simply copy the entire contents of the old one to a compact flash card. Is that correct? Thanks so much for any help.

Respectfully,
Susan-Marie
