Bob,
I think if you ask good questions, you will still likely get good, if not
very good, answers.
Because of my job, I have access to all the note takers and belong to most
of their lists. I can assure you, there is nothing near the level of
complaints on those other lists because the companies involved actually take
the time to address concerns immediately, if not sooner.
There are also far fewer complaints because the devices do what people need
them to do.

I have used the BrailleNote PK since it came out and recommended it and the
mPowers as excellent devices when they were. The last two years, they have
fallen markedly behind the real world. They still meet many people's needs,
which is good. And, these periods of numerous complaints and frustrations
usually blow over in a month or two.

So, the bottom line, is don't despair. Just ignore the messages that are
about the complaints many of us have and ask your questions. There are many
people on this list that have extremely thorough knowledge of these devices
and often give more useful responses than tech support.

Subject: [Braillenote] I know you're frustrated, b"

Hi, folks: I've been on this list again for a month or two, and have mostly
been, as the cb'ers used to say, "copying the mail."
That means, I've been mostly reading the posts.
The predominant theme of these posts has been frustration:
frustration with lack of news about the new upgrade; frustration with the
lack of response to complaints by HW; frustration with the lack of useful
features, as opposed to what might be called frivolities; frustration that
the frivolities are the wrong ones!
Frustration, frustration, frustration. Now I'm not saying that this
frustration might not be justified; what I am saying, however, is that we're
now on the third or fourth time around for these same complaints.
When my wife, Dorie, and I bought our M-power, I got back on the list,
because I figured I could learn something. This list used to be a wonderful
source for information about how to really work the BN. However, this list
is nothing more than a source for grousing and griping, with some occasional
good questions thrown in. (Frankly, I'm kind of surprised that the folks
who dare to ask good questions aren't severely reprimanded, and told to get
with the program, and complain like everyone else, or face the consequences.

The BN is far from perfect; that's for sure. But, I have to
wonder: if I subscribed to another company's list, is it not possible that I
might hear complaints there, too? We always imagine that the grass is
greener, on the other side of the fence.  Usually, though, it's not greener;
just different.
The new upgrade will be out soon. Maybe it will be terrible, and maybe it
won't. The fact is that, whether you like it or not, you'll probably buy
it, because, if you don't do that, you won't be able to buy the next
upgrade, which may have everything you ever wanted on it.

I think we all need to stop and take a deep breath. We need to think about
whether messages we post are really adding any good info, or just re-hashing
the same old stuff. I also must say that I hope that the use of vulgar
language won't become more than a one-time thing. We can hear that on the
street. We don't need to have it in our inboxes.
Well, I think this novela is over. Thank you for your indulgence. Let's
try to get back to being a list, where good info is exchanged. Blessings,
Bob
