Have you noticed that the direction that the company is going, is
the same thing, they're running the list.
So, the list is going to:
HW staff hardly ever make contrifutions, when they do, it's
sometimes just good traffic.

You make very good points. I will say, though, that the list
used to be better, but so did the company. In the last couple
years they have gotten worse and worse, giving us more and more
to complain about. As to other lists, I am on two (Sendero's gps
list, which does not really count in this context, and the GW
Micro Notetaker list). On the second list, I see mostly
questions and the occasional announcement from the company.
Surprisingly, one or two people from GWM itself regularly answer
questions about the device, and anytime a feature is suggested, a
company rep responds with "this has been added to our database"
or "we already have this done for the future". More often than
not, I see the features suggested added in the next software
upgrade, which, by the way, is released as a public beta so that
those who want to can try it ahead of time and make it much less
buggy for the final release. It is the same for Sendero's list;
the company employees, even the founder himself, regularly post
and respond, and traffic is mostly questions and feedback. I
usually agree that the grass is no greener anywhere else, but I
have to say that this time I think it just may be. People will
say, or at least think, "so why don't you put your money where
your mouth is and switch to gwm?" I would, if I had any of that
money with which to stuff my face, but I do not and am therefore
still using my bn. I do not think that the bn is bad, but it is
furthest behind other notetakers and, from what I have seen, is
made by a company with the least company/user interaction of any
of the major assistive tech companies.
Have a great day,
Alex

Subject: [Braillenote] I know you're frustrated, b"
Hi, folks: I've been on this list again for a month or two, and
have mostly been, as the cb'ers used to say, "copying the mail."
That means, I've been mostly reading the posts.
The predominant theme of these posts has been frustration:
frustration with lack of news about the new upgrade; frustration
with the lack of response to complaints by HW; frustration with
the lack of useful features, as opposed to what might be called
frivolities; frustration that the frivolities are the wrong ones!
Frustration, frustration, frustration. Now I'm not saying that
this frustration might not be justified; what I am saying,
however, is that we're now on the third or fourth time around for
these same complaints.
When my wife, Dorie, and I bought our M-power, I got back on the
list, because I figured I could learn something. This list used
to be a wonderful source for information about how to really work
the BN. However, this list is nothing more than a source for
grousing and griping, with some occasional good questions thrown
in. (Frankly, I'm kind of surprised that the folks who dare to
ask good questions aren't severely reprimanded, and told to get
with the program, and complain like everyone else, or face the
consequences.
The BN is far from perfect; that's for sure. But, I have to
wonder: if I subscribed to another company's list, is it not
possible that I might hear complaints there, too? We always
imagine that the grass is greener, on the other side of the
fence. Usually, though, it's not greener; just different.
The new upgrade will be out soon. Maybe it will be terrible, and
maybe it won't. The fact is that, whether you like it or not,
you'll probably buy it, because, if you don't do that, you won't
be able to buy the next upgrade, which may have everything you
ever wanted on it.
I think we all need to stop and take a deep breath. We need to
think about whether messages we post are really adding any good
info, or just re-hashing the same old stuff. I also must say
that I hope that the use of vulgar language won't become more
than a one-time thing. We can hear that on the street. We don't
need to have it in our inboxes.
Well, I think this novela is over. Thank you for your
indulgence. Let's try to get back to being a list, where good
info is exchanged. Blessings, Bob
