Hi Matt,
Yes, this is true for the book reader, but there is a way to protect files outside KeyBook.
Method 1:
File manager.
1. Go to file manager from the main menu.
2. Select protection.
3. It'll ask you to select the drive that the file you want to protect is on, select this. Then, it'll ask you the folder the file is in, select this as well.

4. Then, it'll ask for the filename. Go through the list of files by pressing space and/or backspace or type the name of the file. When you find the file by either method, press enter. the unit will say: (File name) where file name is the name of the file, is unprotected. Option? At this point, press P to protect or U to unprotect the file. When in the list of files, you can also mark files by either pressing space with m to mark a file individually or press enter with dots 2-3-5-6 to mark them all. Method 2: When in a file list, do the same marking/unmarking stuff you do in the file manager, or just select a file individually by either pressing space or typing in the file name. Then, press backspace with P. If you marked multiple files, it'll say: Number of files were selected, where number is the number of files that were selected. Then, it'll say, "confirm each item?" If you want to do this, press y. If not, press n. If you press y, it'll prompt you through each file and ask you if you want to protect or unprotect each one. If you pressed N, it'll say: "Protect or unprotect the files?" As before, press P to protect or U to unprotect. Maybe another lister could comment on this to confirm it's validity. If you want me to explain further, just let me know.
HTH,
Josh

Subject: [Braillenote] protecting text

Hello,
I'm concerned about text files getting messed up and then resaved
with the mistakes in place? There are files which I only intend
to read, like some text files containing the books of the bible.
Is the best way to keep them from getting messed up to just read
them in book reader? I mean, you can't input text or hit keys on
accident within book reader and have that info saved, is this
correct?
Thanks,

Matt
