If you hold down the previous thumb key and press the space bar, you will cycle through the speech settings. The cycle is: speech on request, speech off, speech on. Just turn off speech and the Apex will start silently. I kept speech turned off most of the time.

Subject: [Braillenote] starting up a braillenote apex qt silently

Hi all,

I remember on the old braille light and Braille and Speak models, starting
them up whilst holding down the space bar was a very handy method for
keeping them silent. Is there an equivalent for the apex qt? It is a pain to here, blah blah blah, resuming editing of, blah blah blah, when I just want
to jot something quickly. It can also be jarring if with colleagues.

Thanks,

Me
