The Hims list reminds me of the way the Braillenote list used to be. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Alex Hall Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2012 3:51 PM To: Allison Fallin Cc: Braillenote Subject: Re: [Braillenote] Re: Some thoughts on Notetakers
The way I see it, it is not the notetaker's features, or lack thereof, that are the problem with customers. Rather, it is the lack of Humanware's efforts to fix anything. A keysoft update with one feature? Still no docx support? No multi-tasking? No bluetooth object exchange support? So many long-standing bugs not fixed? Yet they charge for it as though the apex were the Apple of the assistive tech world, which it certainly is not even close to being. Other companies offer better, and free, software updates and actually participate in list discussions. Do those machines lack features? Of course. On the other hand, their parent companies actually step up and do something about it. By the way, I am on the Hims notetaker list, so I have seen the problems and frustrations with that line of products, and I never see discussions like we have here. Why? Simple: Hims is active on that list, they update their notetakers with features their customers want, they don't charge huge amounts of money for tiny feature sets, and they fix bugs. They also innovate with their hardware designs - a notetaker with a vibration motor? How nice is that for the deaf-blind? Humanware's deaf-blind customers, at least those using the DBC, are still on the mPower as far as I know.
