Dear List,

I have used HumanWare notetakers since 1995. I have used the KeyNote Companion, VoiceNote Qwerty, BrailleNote qwerty, mPower qwerty and Apex qwerty. I bought them for the same reasons Sharon said. I liked Keysoft and the way it worked. The HumanWare staff was great until the Loomis California office was closed down. The Concord California office wasn't as helpful. The Quebec office did not give me good quality service. One person was nice, but his english was hard to understand. Another man spoke good english, but he was out-and-out rude.

I don't find any pleasure in saying these things about the HW staff. What we need is some good HW staff who care about customer service with an office here in the U.S. They should also be able to repair our notetakers so we don't have to send them clear to Canada.

Last of all, we need positive feedback messages right on this list from HumanWare staff.

I keep hoping things will turn around. That's why I stay on this list.

Hi, I agree with Allison. I have also gone through all three of the
versions of Braillenotes. For what I need to do the Apex does almost all
things and those it doesn't do I have a computer for that because the Apex
is just a note taker it is not a replacement for computer.

I find the humanware staff here in Australia great and they have gone out of their way to help me in the past when I had a faulty PK, they wouldn't stop
until I got a working machine and I was happy.

The reason I chose the Braillenote was partly because of how easy it is to
work with keysoft and partly because of the helpful staff. I went to a
display day where there were two notetakers on display and when I looked at the other one the guy just placed it in front of me and would talk about it but wouldn't show me how to turn it on or let me have a play with it. When I
went up to humanware and asked them about their machine not only were they
happy to show me how it works but they also let me spend as much time as I
wanted playing around with the machine.

I will finish by saying if you want a machine to act like a computer then
get a notebook or laptop, if you are after just a notetaker then the
braillenote should be fine for that.

This is just my opinion as a happy Apex user.

Subject: [Braillenote] Re: Some thoughts on Notetakers

| I'd like to post my own thoughts on notetakers and HW in
| particular. I've been a Braillenote user since 2002, and have
| had a classic, an MPOWED, and now an Apex.
| Since I knew much less in 2002 than I do now, I was very afraid I
| would buy the wrong notetaker, and since I was buying it, it was
| crucial to me that I buy the right one. One of the main reasons
| I bought a product from HW was that the learning curve was so
| much lees steep than it would have been for any other notetaker
| then on the market. I knew immediately that I could learn to
| use my Braillenote, and since no training was available to me,
| this was important.
| Is HW perfect? Of course not. I've had my frustrations just like
| everyone else. Are there things that my Apex doesn't do that I
| wish it did. Absolutely.
| However I love my Apex and I would be lost without it. It has
| enriched my life and think Hw has done a great job.
| I know there are other notetakers out there, and everyone is free
| to make their own choice.
| However, I do have to say that I get tired of hearing the HW
| bashing on the list. If people don'tl their Apex or don't like
| HW, tell them so, and buy something else.
| Hw is not perfect, but I suspect if you talked to people who have
| other notetakers, you'd find that the companies that make their
| notetakers aren't's perfect either.
