Hi, Crystal. That seems odd to me. You know there is no way that a 32mb
chip could cost 425 dollars and it certainly isn't that difficult to put it
in. It might cost more if pulse data buys only a limited quantity, but that
still seems rather high. I used to replace rom chips on my braille and
speak all of the time rather than send it in.
If I can get a 512 mb flash card for under 140 dollars, why does it cost me
425 dollars for a 32 mb chip?
Nevertheless, I wanted that and decided to have it installed and I am glad
I did.
Until I hear a better explanation, I think it is nothing more than an
agency ripping off the handicapped because they can. The market is small
for selling things like braille notes and voice notes, screen readers and
such. You have to recoop your R&D and other resources that it took to
manufacture the product. You have to pay to keep the lights on so to speak,
but charging 425 dollars for a 32 mb chip is just a plain rip off. The
problem is it's the only game intown. It's not like you can shop around.
Either you want it installed or you don't. If they are dealing with a
supplier who is charging them 400 dollars for a chip and then they charge
25 dollars to put it in, they need to find another supplier. Even laptop
memory, which is usually proprietary and rather expensive is not that
expensive. But, if you want that memory like I did, that's the only option.
I hope that if we get a new board one of these days that those of us who
put out that amount will be given some sort of break if they decide to
upgrade the memory to a larger amount. I am not complaining, just stating
things the way I see them. I made the choice to add memory. No one twisted
my arm. It was my own decision and I think it will benefit those of us who
made the same choice in the future. If we ever get the development kit out,
it will be nice to have that memory and I think it makes some bn processes
run smoother.

The additional 32 mb would seem to be very useful, but, the cost seems
pretty dear. Is there some special reason why this 32 mb for the Notes is
so pricey?
