I have KeySoft version 5. When I purchased my BrailleNote, I had version 4.01,
and since I'd ordered my Spanish software at the time of purchase, it was
already installed for me; however, I had the Compact Flash card that contained
the software on it. When I downloaded the KeySoft 5 upgrade from the Internet,
the multilingual worked fine. When I sent my BN for repair, KeySoft 5 had been
burnt into ROM, and all my files had been lost; this meant my multilingual
program was no longer installed, but I was able to install it myself through
the Application Program option in the Utilities Menu. However, it wouldn't
work at first because I didn't have a file called kgm32.dll for whatever
reason. Check to see if you have this file in the root directory of your Flash
Disk or in your Windows folder also on the Flash. You have to go into
Directory from the File Manager, and, after selecting the Flash Disk, you can
just put in a slash at the "Directory Name" prompt. Go into the view of "All,
Including Hidden, Files" and see if the file's there; if it is, copy (or move)
it to the Windows folder on the Flash Disk and press reset after doing so.
Also check the Windows directory on the Flash Disk by putt in /windows at the
prompt for directory after selecting the Flash Disk; again, you'll have to
check the view of hidden files. If you don't have a windows folder (I didn't
have one when the unit came back with KeySoft 5.0 Build 25 burnt into ROM), you
can create one to copy the file to. As far as I understand, this is the speech
driver for English, and, for example, the speech driver for Spanish would be
called kgm32spn.dllbe you have to make sure that both these files are in the
Windows folder on the Flash Disk, and the foreign language speech driver would
be installed in the root directory of the Flash Disk after you installed
multilingual software. The foreign language speech file would probably be
there because it's one of the files in the multilingual package, but if you
don't have the regular speech driver (as I didn't), you'll have to call or
email Technical Support so you could somehow obtain it. Once both speech files
(regular and foreign language) are in the Windows folder on the Flash and
you've done a Reset with no keys held down, your text in another language
should be read fine. I think the first multilingual release came out with
KeySoft 4, so it probably wouldn't work with a version 3. With me, I had the
Spanish dictionary along with all the other files in the multilingual program,
and the only problem was the speech. If you have any other problems, try
re-installing your software, and look in such places as the Dictionaries and
Windows folders on the Flash to see if there's anything in there related to
your language; in my case, the file I needed was called "spanish install.exe"
(without the quotes). Hope this helps.
