Monica:

I use the BN in onehanded mode, as I suffered a stroke 9 years back, & my righthand should never be in proximity to a keyboard! For that matter, glasses containing liquid should never be in the area of that hanc either.

If you are in one handed mode, you can hit whatever keys needed to make a letter, however you want to do it, & the letter won't be acted upon until you strike the spacebar. Exsample, the letter D might be achieved by striking dot 1, then dot 4, & then dot 5, then space. To type a space, strike spacebar twice.

Yes, this can be slower, by a considerable amount, but it is certainly better than the alternative of not being able to braille at all. I do know that some people actually use this mode for writing, when they are on the phone at work, or temporarily limited to one hand because of injury, etc.

Hello Irene and everyone. I'm glad the staff designed the BrailleNote in
such a way that one-handed braille could be used for people who have only
the use of one hand. I don't think that, from all my light-heartedness the
other day, that I made clear what I was really asking. I was picturing
myself trying to write one handed and wondered how it was accomplished,
being that we use two hands to make most of the braille combinations and
contractions. For instance, if I chose to use one-handed mode, how would I
braille the letter d or, say, the WH contraction. I am asking because I'm
interested. I apologize if my message the other day seemed like poking fun
at those of you who use this method; that was never my intention at all. As
I stated, I was picturing me doing it because I know how clumsy I can be.
The attempt at humor was directed at myself.

Folks, I'm pretty new to BrailleNote so forgive me for being a bit
ignorant.
I'm supposed to pick my new PK today and am very excited about finally
getting it. Anyway, in the manual of an older one I borrowed for a while,
I
do recall seing a reference to this one-handed mode. I love to read
manuals,
and since I'm out of school, I'll have to go back in the manual and find
out
how anyone in the world can braille one handed, grin. I would enjoy
hearing
your viewpoints on why someone would want to do this, unless perhaps it's
for someone who might have use of only one hand. I'm excited about
learning
(smile)

I believe to get out of one-handed mode, you hold down the enter key while
turning the unit on.
