Use a butter knife or a broad-headed little angled pry bar if you have one.... 
you do not want to nick the rubber.  (A broad headed screwdriver will wok, but 
it's a good idea not to use one on your first surgery.<G>)  Go in  at one of 
the two extra-wide open lug slots in order to get as shallow an angle as 
possible and then go to the other side or work the gasket down slowly going 
around the gasket rather than trying to drag it off with one brutal jerk.
