There is absolutely no risk of group tear taking the lever handle out
and even the cam which is optional to lube them. I am not a handy guy
and I did it.
The fact is that you eventually get used to the lever getting stiffer
as time passes by and you only get a little concerned when it
squeaks....

Again, my only advice as I mentioned it before is take a picture of
the lever and cam before you snap it out and assure you that the
whole service should not las longer than 15 or 20 minutes.

Dow Corning 111 is the best lubricant available for espresso machines.
It is food safe and stable up to 400F. I will even try it on the next
group gasket to be able to take the screen easier for cleaning.
How long will it last?
Well, Chriscofee recommends blackfushing with detergent only once
every 4 to 6 weeks if you pull 2 to 6 shots a day ( I fit in this
category) and I was doing it once a week ! , therefore, I think that
every 3 months would be ideal only in case that I detect the lever
stiffer or squeaking.
Only time will tell, but again, according to the link provided you can
lube the sides of the cam and the pins without even snapping the cam
out since you only want to do it if you are going to lube the back of
it ( once a year is more than enough IMHO). Without snapping the cam
out it would take me 10 minutes total to lube the sides of the cam,
the pins and the inside part of the barrel which are the most
important parts.
