ira you are correct. the old controller was really brittle from 5+years of heat 
so i decided to just replace everything. it all went without a hitch. so far 
all 
appears to be working correctly. mine was set up for a freezer as well, thanks 
for the info, so i switched it to heat and moved the set point to 93. the first 
time it heated up it overshot to 98. the next time 95. i'm sure once it's been 
on a few minutes the overshoot will be even less. thanks again everybody for 
the 
help.

Actually I believe that comes with a new sensor in the box so you should be 
good 
to go. If you install the new one, you will have to go through setup as the one 
I helped install came set for a freezer and so would never turn on the heater.  
Also it shows overshoot so you will have a better idea of what''s going on in 
the boiler.
